Bound By Blood – Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia (WM)
The American Cancer Society identifies Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia (WM) as an extremely rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, with only about 1,000–1,500 cases in the U.S. per year.
Mike, 70, was enjoying plenty of golf in retirement, until he discovered he had WM, which he says hit him like a “gut punch.” But after starting chemotherapy, Mike opts for an alternative treatment that soon puts him on a better path to overcoming his illness. And in this episode of Medical Stories, he reveals how he learned to approach this experience, just like golf, “one shot at a time.”
Featuring renowned expert: Dr. Shuo Ma, professor of medicine, hematology-oncology, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center.
