Diagnosis Delayed – Rare Kidney Disease-RKD

Because of their lack of obvious symptoms and low public awareness, rare kidney diseases or RKD, like immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy, make it difficult for affected individuals to obtain an accurate and timely diagnosis, according to the CDC.

When he started experiencing fatigue and sore muscles in his thirties, Jeff assumed they were normal signs of getting older — until a test showed he had IgA. Medical Stories takes a look at how Jeff, now 40, readjusted his lifestyle with the help of his wife, Joy, and how they both navigated the challenges of living with a seemingly invisible disease.

Featuring renowned expert: Jai Radhakrishnan, professor of medicine and director of Clinical Services of the Nephrology Division at Columbia University Medical Center.
