Rare Realities – PLGD
Plasminogen deficiency type one (PLGD-1) is a disorder that can cause symptoms like loss of hearing and infertility. But the Plasminogen Deficiency Foundation says it affects fewer than 500 people in the U.S., making it difficult to receive an accurate diagnosis early on.
Renae has lived with the symptoms of PLGD-1 since childhood – but she remained unaware of the disorder until her diagnosis at the age of 50. Medical Stories catches up with Renae as she describes living with a strange disease as a young girl – and the alternative procedure she underwent as an adult that gave her hope for the future.
Featuring renowned expert: Amy D. Shapiro, chief executive officer and co-medical director of the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center.
