Cells in Crisis – Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)

The National Institutes of Health lists chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) as the most common leukemia in Western countries, accounting for up to 30 percent of all cases.

When Air Force veteran Carlos discovered his CLL had progressed to the worst stage of the disease, “you could have sucked the air out of the room,” according to his daughter, Elena. But Carlos, now 87, shares with Medical Stories how his family and his doctor helped him find a way forward with an alternative to chemotherapy that allowed him to fight back against his illness.

Featuring renowned expert: Dr. Jacqueline C. Barrientos, chief of hematologic malignancies and director of oncological research, Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida
